Nationwide Building Society Implements Advanced Fraud Defense with Auraya's EVA Forensics Voice Biometric System

[London, UK, February 1, 2023] - Nationwide Building Society, the largest building society globally with over 16 million members, has taken steps to enhance its security measures against fraud and scams by implementing Auraya's EVA Forensics voice biometric system. This deployment is part of Nationwide's ongoing efforts to upgrade its security technologies and to maintain its members' expectations of high-level protection.

During the 2021/2022 fiscal year, Nationwide's fraud defense systems and 24/7 fraud team successfully prevented £97 million in attempted card and online transactions, emphasizing the need for robust fraud defense mechanisms. The integration of EVA Forensics is a crucial component of Nationwide's transformation initiative to move core applications and capabilities to secure cloud solutions and improve its member services.

EVA Forensics is integrated with Amazon's cloud-based contact center, allowing Nationwide to monitor conversations for known fraudsters and verify customer identity for improved efficiency, convenience, and security. The system uses voiceprint enrolment of previous fraudsters from call recordings to create a fraudster list and alerts Nationwide when a voice matches a known fraudster for prompt action by the fraud defense team.

Paul Magee, President of Auraya, expressed his admiration for Nationwide's implementation of EVA Forensics and how their feedback has facilitated the addition of new features to enhance monitoring and alerting efficiency.

Andrew Carter, Financial Crime Senior Manager at Nationwide Building Society, stressed the increasing sophistication of criminals and the necessity of detecting impersonators in a timely and efficient manner.

Nationwide Building Society's implementation of Auraya's EVA Forensics represents a significant advancement in the fight against financial crime and scams. The capability to monitor and detect known fraudsters using voice biometrics will further enhance Nationwide's ability to protect its members and their data. The successful rollout of EVA Forensics during a pandemic, with two companies operating from different parts of the world, demonstrates the determination and commitment of all parties involved to safeguard their customers and prevent financial crime.
