The Biometric Institute has released their updated Privacy Guidelines for 2021. The update includes two new principles: the need for a communication plan and to ensure ethical and sensitive actions to community expectations and human rights.
The Biometric Institute updates its Privacy Guidelines every two years, with the 2019 edition being the previous release. The 2021 update ensures that the document reflects global changes in technology or legislation which impacts privacy.
As stated on their webpage, the key changes to the 2021 Privacy Guidelines include:
Strengthening existing principles to meet developments since the last review
Greater protection against cultural or other discrimination
Stronger advice about openness and gaining informed consent
Stronger advice to users to fully understand issues of accuracy, bias and success/failure rates
Ensuring fair handling of complaints and expert human intervention
Biometric Institute first released the Privacy Guidelines document in 2006, highlighting 18 principles ranging from non-discriminatory to maintaining a strong privacy environment. Auraya has been a supplier member of the Biometric Institute for many years and supports the ethical and responsible use of biometric technology, including voice biometrics.
